C ole is an extremely troubled boy of Native American descent, and has brought his violence and anger to the point of all but killing another boy. Given a choice between prison and a Native American tradition called Circle Justice, Cole plays along with his tribe's tradition. In his heart, he blames everyone but himself for his situation. In a yearlong banishment, he undergoes a painful and transformative journey which offers him the chance to save his soul.
